My pro take

This is the foundation I think of for long days and big moments. It gives full coverage with a soft-matte, velvety finish, so skin looks smooth and even without that flat, heavy matte look. It is made in collaboration with JU Quillage, and it is built to control oil and resist sweat and water, which matters at a summer wedding in Pretoria or a matric dance that runs until late.

What I like as an artist is that it builds well. One thin layer evens out the skin; a second layer on specific areas covers more without looking cakey. The range of 13 shades, from Porcelain to Ebony, also means it covers far more South African skin tones than many foundations at this price.

There are 13 shades: Porcelain, Nude, Warm Peach, Buff Beige, Sand, Warm Sun, Honey, Tan, Mocha, Truffle, Chestnut, Toffee and Ebony. Names with "Warm", Honey and Toffee lean golden. If you are between two shades, choose the one that matches your neck, and use the shade guide to narrow it down.

How I apply it

Prep
Moisturise and let it sink in. A hydrated base stops full coverage from clinging to dry patches.

Start in the centre
Apply a small amount to the centre of the face, where most people need coverage, and blend outwards.

Blend with a damp sponge
Press and bounce rather than wipe. It keeps the finish skin-like and the coverage even.

Build where needed
Add a second thin layer only on areas that need it, like redness around the nose.

Set
Powder the T-zone and under the eyes, then finish with the 24HR Waterproof Setting Spray.
